The Robben's Nest

So I survived my first go at designing/decorating a home for the Homearama show here in Louisville.  I worked on the project for nearly a year, putting ideas together, working with the builder, and the homeowners.  I selected every last item in that house including the pulls for the cabinets, hardwood, tile, lighting fixtures, carpet, paint colors, and the list goes on....I feel very blessed to have been able to work on this project.  It was a labor of love.  So I wanted to share some photos that I took, and some that a professional photographer took of the "Robben's Nest", which is what we named the house!
Enjoy!
This is the family room.   The fabric for the window treatments is a IKAT fabric with blues, greens, and taupe.  The fireplace has a marble surround.  The furniture is a mixture of antiques and new pieces.
Nice coffee table..
Collection of lanterns in front of the fireplace.
Custom prints behind the couch wall.
Love this crackled aqua bunny anchored over in the corner :)
Butterfly prints for a touch of whimsy!
This is how I staged one of the built-ins..

Here are some photos of the kitchen which were a light cream with a glaze and had leaded glass doors.

The backsplash is a quatrefoil design with marble and glass.  The bar stools were from Ballard Design, and fit in nicely!
Large farmhouse sink!
This was on the kitchen wall.  A large chalkboard frame!
This is the intimate dining room setting that I created, with comfy upholstered chairs!
View from the kitchen looking in the dining room, that had a custom window seat, for extra seating.
Wall of storage down the hallway, who doesn't love storage?
Hallway bench that was right across from the built-ins!  Perfect spot to sit and read a book.
This is the Master Suite.  I used a chalky salmon color, with dark rich brown accents, and cream to keep it light!  The bed was a dark chocolate velvet upholstered bed, very luxe!  The side tables were these great mahogany antiques that I luckily found on an antique outing.
Collage wall of artwork...
Vintage piece of furniture that I had refinished in a cream with a chocolate glaze.  Some beautiful mercury candlesticks, and a Ballard Design mirror.
On to the master bath....
I designed the vanities to look like antiques.  They had vintage handles, and a dark wood stain with decorative furniture feet.  The tops were marble.
We opted for a free standing tub...Love it!
And a custom stain glass window design.
Tile in front of the tub, made to look like an area rug.
Shower tile...
Custom linen closet I designed for the master bath, with antique mirrored glass in the top cabinets.
Powder Room, custom wall stencil.
Now the laundry room.  I had the cabinets painted a soft pale grey/blue and had countertops made to match out of laminate.  The walls are a soft grey.  The knobs on the cabinets are milk glass :)
Alternating lines of penny tiles, very vintage feeling.  I wouldn't mind doing the laundry in this laundry room!
The hallway stairwell, very pretty trim!
Upstairs office..
Here is the guest bedroom that I designed with Paris in mind.  I designed it to look like a Paris apartment.
Unique way to display your lulubelles.com jewelry!
Here is a lampshade that I designed and made myself.
For the baseball fans, here is a little boys major league room, with custom stripes in blue, cream, and grey.  I designed the headboards made with Louisville Slugger bats.
Here is the ceiling dome that we had painted like a baseball with the Homeowners' favorite team logo.
Don't forget to take advantage of your hallways.  They make the perfect little areas to add accents too.
Prints that I ordered and framed.  I even had my mom and best friend help me glaze the frames.  Easy solution to get the finish you want!
Another guest suite.  In this bedroom I kept the walls a neutral cream and used bolder colors for accents.
The headboard is a blue velvet, very comfortable!

This was another antique piece that I found and had painted and glazed!
This was the ceiling detail in this room, amazing!
Here is a photo of the guest bathroom attached to this bedroom.  Very girlie!  I designed the vanity, and wanted it to look like a piece of furniture.  It has mercury knobs that I purchased from Anthropologie.
Shower with glass tile accent.
This third floor lookout was really fun to design.  It has white wood panels and blue glossy trim.  A very costal feel, just needed an ocean view :)
This is a corner bench seat, perfect for sitting and enjoying a book or magazine.
Custom book shelves up in the lookout with wallpaper on the back walls.
Ceiling detail....
And, of course, the ever important "man cave" in the basement!
Notice the brick detail on the wall :)
Here's the entryway to the home, or in your case where you can exit this tour!
and this cozy front porch...
Thanks for stopping by...
until next time

    1. I got the light from a local lighting company called Brechers. If you contacted them, they would be able to provide the source. They are located in Louisville, KY. :)
